young elementary homeschooler looking through a microscopeThere are a large number of beginning science experiments for the homeschooler. Parents should ensure that these types of projects are worked into the curriculum of the homeschool classroom because of the fact that these experiments enhance and develop the critical thinking skills, experimental curiosity skills, and basic research skills of the students in the home.

It is important to integrate these experiments as early as kindergarten. Science plays a large role in our day to day lives, and it is absolutely essential to provide both young and older students with the ability to work with it and excel in the subject. Here, I will provide some beginning science experiments for the homeschooler in the kindergarten to first grade bracket.

Rock Candy

Creating rock candy is a big hit among homeschoolers that are in kindergarten and the first grade level. You will need to gather a few supplies in order to do this project. The following will detail the essentials needed for one student. If you have multiple students, it is essential to ensure that increase the materials as appropriate:

little girl dressed as a pilgrim during show and tellThere are many Thanksgiving activities for homeschool children to take part in. One of the best ways to educate your homeschooler is to incorporate activities like arts, crafts, games, and more into your core curriculum. Not only do children develop an understanding of the holiday on the whole, but they also gain an appreciation of the holiday, and the traditions that take place on this day. In this helpful guide, you will be introduced to some Thanksgiving activities for homeschoolers that you and your family may like to engage in this year.

Show and Tell Thanksgiving Book Reports

There are many different books available at your local bookstore, library, and even online that incorporate the Thanksgiving holiday into them. You could encourage your child or children to create a “Show and Tell Book Report”. Now, this works a bit differently than your basic book report in that instead of writing about it and then reading the report or turning it in to you, they will act out the plot of the story. In a way, they are creating their own Thanksgiving play based on the story that they have read. They can act as the character, or they can make hand puppets, or finger puppets to tell the story! If you are interested in Thanksgiving books for kids, you may consider the following:

young-jedi.jpgMotivating the young homeschooler can be an especially difficult task. As we approached the new school year, I became increasingly worried because of the fact that our youngest son was not quite motivated when it came to learning. We had attempted to work with him over the summer and became quite worried that he may not be on target according to the state standards, and that we would never find a way to reach him. Now, our oldest son was right on target, and continues to be. However, we had to overcome the challenge posed to us by our youngest.

If you are a homeschool parent that has faced the challenge of motivating your child, you know the frustration, worry, and pure exhaustion that comes with trying to develop plans to win the child over. While my youngest did seem to be receptive to the new super positive route we were trying, we noticed issues with that too! We started to see that if we explained a mistake that he made, it hit him really hard and he would almost close up to an extent. He seemed to develop a real issue with being “incorrect” or not getting every little thing right.

learning the alphabet with alphabet blocksThere are many fun and creative ways to teach your child the alphabet. It has been determined that learning the alphabet, as well as developing an awareness for phonics are the keys to success when it comes to successful readers. Successful readers have been found to be more academically inclined and successful in their studies, stable emotionally, and proactive when it comes to detail, and instructions. If you would like to open new doors for your little learner, one of the best ways to start is by teaching them their ABC’s. It is important to understand that young children are often motivated and learn more when they are taught in a playful and fun manner. If you keep that in mind, you are quite likely to experience rapid success in your endeavors.

Mom homeschooling her daughterMany parents may believe that homeschooling is a very difficult task designated only for a select few parents. While it does take a little bit of extra effort to homeschool your children, just about anyone with a little time and dedication to educating their children and preparing them for the life that lies ahead of them can do. There are many obstacles that you will face as a homeschool parent. One of the most common issues that I have discovered among homeschooling families is burnout. Just about every parent that performs this task has experienced this issue at one point or another – myself included. This is why I felt it appropriate to compose a guide on how parents and families in general can avoid homeschool burnout.

a grocery store can be a great learning opportunityOne of the main advantages to teaching a child at home is the fact that you can use many different creative outlets in doing so. While your child’s peers are tucked away in the “traditional” classroom setting, you and your children can be out engaging in activities in different areas of your community learning all sorts of new and exciting things. Here, you will learn about unique learning adventures for homeschoolers that can be pursued by you and your family.

Math

There are many exciting adventures that can be participated in when it comes to teaching your child math. One of the easiest and most effective learning adventures for homeschoolers is going to the grocery store with you. Of course, you can take your child other places to teach important math concepts as well. You could take a trip to McDonald's for a Happy Meal, the toy store, or a local pet store to purchase supplies for your pet. The important thing is that the student is introduced to the concept of money. You may also want to integrate the fact that tax is charged on certain items, and the importance of making wise financial choices.
